Job Level: Experienced (Non-Manager)
Design Engineers are required to participate in a group of Board and FPGA engineers in the design and support of hardware for Nortel's Multi-Service Passport 15K/7K (MSS) product within the Carrier Services Edge (SE) division.
Primary responsibilities of this position include working within a group of hardware design engineers providing sustaining and cost reduction support of new and existing hardware for the Passport 15K/7K Product Portfolio. The role includes the design and debug, supporting both manufacturing and customer programs.
The successful candidate will work with the team in a wide variety of tasks ranging from documentation, cost analysis, specification writing and reviews, CAD design, proto builds, manufacturing support and lab test and verification. Good written and oral English Language Skills are essential. This position will give you a significant opportunity to develop and demonstrate your technical skills as well as influencing the lifecycle of the Passport Product.
The following qualifications and experience are mandatory:
・Bachelors Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent related degree with 1 to 5 years of experience.
・Experience in working with board and FPGA design
o telecom related a key advantage
o Electrical circuit design (Cadence design tools)
o FPGA/CPLD programmable device design (Xilinx, Altera, Lattice)
・Team work and good communication skills are a must.
o Good English written skills with the ability to convey important information in reports and design documentation to both management and peers.
・Basic H/W lab skills (soldering, oscilloscopes, voltmeters)
Knowledge and experience in the following areas would be an asset:
* Familiarity with Telecom-related standards such as ETSI, NEBS, Telcordia and EUED-RoHS.
* Network sync technologies, standards, applications and testing.
* A general understanding of Ethernet, IP and Layer 2 protocols such as ATM and Frame Relay.
* SONET, optics and protocols.
* PPC processing technologies including MPC755, SDRAM, MPC106 bridge, Strata FLASH and PCI interconnect.
* Experience dealing with manufacturer Product Introduction teams and facilities.
* Database tools : DDME, SAP, CVS, Clearcase, Matrix
* Familiarity with the following CAD tools would be an asset;
o Board Design: UNICAD, Viewlogic and Cadence tools sets.
o FPGA Design: Alliance/ Quartas II, ModelSim/ NC-Verilog + Simvision, Amplify, Synplify
o Signal Integrity: HSPICE, Cadence post layout tools.
